At their meeting on Tuesday morning, the Board of Lee County Commissioners approved an extension of the build out dates for the Brooks in Bonita Springs and a 10-day extension on the Matlacha Bridge Replacement Project and also agreed to send letters of opposition to a proposed bill that will allow licensed professionals to be exempt from local fertilizer ordinances and a 5-year lease program being proposed by the federal government to allow for oil exploration off Florida's coast.

Beach Little League Registration Opens

Registration for the 2011/12 Fort Myers Beach Little League season is underway. Boys and girls ages 4-18 can sign up for baseball or softball on the following dates:

Tuesday November 29, 6-8 p.m. at the Little League building at Bay Oaks Rec Center

Thursday December 1, 6-8 p.m. at the Little League building at Bay Oaks Rec Center

Sunday December 11, 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Little League building at Bay Oaks Rec Center

Practices are expected to start by the first of the year. Games are scheduled to start in February. All Stars can last into July. Registration cost is $60.

Memorial Park will close for repairs

Fort Myers Beach, FL, November 10, 2011 — The public fishing pier on Fort Myers Beach located at Lynn Hall Memorial Parkwill close for repairs November 14ththrough November 18, 2011. The restoration project is funded by TDC, Tourist Development Council, and is scheduled to be completed in mid January 2012. The project includes replacement of the wood railing along the pier and the dune walkovers, replacing the water lines and electrical conduit and wiring along the pier in addition to recoating the walking surface with traffic bearing membrane. Improvements will also take place to the piling and under side of the fishing pier.

Anglers and visitors are welcome to use the fishing pier under the Matanzas Bridge on Matanzas Bridge Fishing Pieroff of San Carlos Island. A saltwater fishing license is required for Florida residents who saltwater fish from shore, however there is no fee for the license for Florida residents. Bill Nelson is expected to sound an optimistic note in a major speech before business, civic and political leaders gathering in Fort Myers tomorrow. The state's senior senator is scheduled to deliver opening remarks at the Campaign for Leadership 2011, sponsored by the area's chamber of commerce, the Naples Daily News and various other prominent organizations including the League of Women Voters.
