On Tuesday, March 8th, three seats will open on the Fort Myers Beach Town Council and the four candidates who are vying for those seats have been busy attending candidate forums to let voters know where they stand on the issues. Last week, Bob Raymond, Jo List, Carl Conley and Joe Kosinski appeared before the Beach Condominium Association. Earlier this week three of them spoke to the Realtors Association and last night they answered questions at the Beach Chamber of Commerce's Commotion by the Ocean.

Library Board Members met Tuesday night for their regular monthly meeting. Public attendance was less than 20, possibly due to the concurrent Town Council meeting being held at Town Hall. The Town Council meeting, normally held on Monday evenings was moved to Tuesday due to the President's Day holiday.

Residents and visitors tired of long traffic delays at the Big Carlos Pass bridge on the island's the south end will get some relief after Friday when the re-surfacing project gets postponed until after season.

"I spoke to Paul Weingard with the Florida Department of Transportation today, and he explained that the reason the project is being done this time of year – when it's not raining every day - is because the surface has to have time to dry,” said Councilman Alan Mandel.

Conley's Code Violations on Hold

Last week, the Sand Paper reported on code violations at the Purple Heart Theater and that Community Development Director Walter Fleugel had agreed to hold those violations in abeyance if Conley met with several conditions set forth by the Town: a cease and desist letter that he has stopped using 2915 Estero Blvd for a membership organization office or for events, a Certificate of Use for the building to be used as an office for the Island Arts Foundation, and all the required inspections completed. As of this week, Conley has met those conditions and has now been approved by the Town to operate 2915 Estero as anoffice only.
