The family of Jim Welker is not known to miss any opportunity to throw a party. As operators of the Cracker Box Seafood Restaurant at 16910 McGregor Blvd in South Fort Myers since 1975, they know a thing or two about food, drink, music and fun. Jim’s daughter Jody Jones and son-in-law John operate the place now, with Jim sitting in with the Cracker Box Band several nights per week, until recently.

A 2,950-mile walk across country would be a daunting proposition for anyone, but for a 75-year old Vietnam Veteran? "No problem,” says Ray Agnew.

Agnew, a resident of Fort Myers, is tackling that challenge March 1st, when he disembarks on foot from Jacksonville, Florida, to Seattle, Washington. "This paper I have here, says it’s 2,950 miles, but I think it’s longer,” he said. "I don’t care if it takes me six months, I’m going to do it.”

Monday's Town Council meeting was a short one, with the council quickly ratifying the temporary employment agreement with Interim Town Manager Don Stilwell followed by updates on the elevated pools issue and the Mound House.

"It looks very likely that we will have the dumpster issue at Bay Oaks resolved within the next 10 days, and I plan to have something before you at the next council meeting," he said.
