2014 ElectionNovember Candidates
Must Qualify in June

As many of our readers are aware, 2014 is an election year. While there is no presidential race this year, mid-term elections are just as important as they involve many important local issues. These are also the years that the boards for local special districts are elected, and on Fort Myers Beach we have three - the Beach Library, the Fort Myers Beach Fire District and the Fort Myers Beach Mosquito Control District. Anyone interested in being on the ballot in November for a seat on a special district board must qualify for the election by June 20th. Seats on these boards are open to all registered voters who live within those districts, and all the documents needed to qualify to run are available at the Lee County Supervisor of Election's website at www.leeelections.com. Qualifying week for special districts runs from noon on June 16th to noon on June 20th.

The Fort Myers Beach Parks and Recreation Department has been in the fast lane of growth and responsibilities since Lee County turned the properties and operations over to the town about 5 years ago. In addition to the core services islanders have come to expect, the P&R staffers have worked hard to expand the facility’s reach into the community through more comprehensive programming, fundraisers, increased rental customers and coordination of efforts at its sites around town - Bay Oaks Recreation Center (BORC), the Community Pool, Newton Park and the Mound House.
