A musical banquet
Holiday tradition will be served with a spicy twist at the Island Arts Foundation Annual Christmas Concert at the Purple Heart Theater on December 20th. Music fans are in for a rare treat as Jo List – one of Fort Myers Beach's musical treasures – headlines the holiday concert along with special guest, Gene "King Sax” Walker. A traditional Christmas dinner caps the festivities, which run from 4 to 7 p.m.

Pam Flowers Receives 2009 Golden Coconut Award
During a special ceremony Wednesday morning in front of the entire student body of Fort Myers Beach Elementary School, Fran Myers, D.J. "Petro” Petrucelli, Ann Alsop and John Albion of the Chamber Foundation Association presented first grade teacher Pam Flowers with the 18th Annual Golden Coconut Award for outstanding teaching. The Chamber Foundation established the Golden Coconut Award as a way to show appreciation for our Beach educators.
"This Chamber thinks that Beach Elementary is the best school in Lee County,” Fran told the gathered students and teachers. "That's why we came up with the idea for this award – it's better than a Golden Apple! (For more on this story read The Island Sand Paper)

Bay Oaks Opens with a Full Schedule
Under New Management
Anyone who thought that the Town taking over Bay Oaks would somehow damage the operations of the recreation center would have been mistaken. It is open and running full bore. Starting with the Community pool, the lap pool is open for adult lap swimming Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 9 –12. The whole pool is open Fridays from 2:30-6:00 and in December on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 – 5:00. (For more on this story subscribe to the Island Sand Paper) |
