The annual event sponsored by Keep Lee County Beautiful will be held at Fish Tale Marina, 7225 Estero Blvd. on November 3 starting at 8am. Islanders are invited to use their kayak or boat to help clean the back bay of monofilament fishing line and other debris from 8-11:30 am. A free lunch will be provided to volunteers. From 11:30am-4pm the Environmental EXPO at Fish Tale Marina will feature speakers from Ostego Bay, Turtle Time, Lee County Sheriff’s Office, Keep Lee County Beautiful, FGCU and the Town of Fort Myers Beach. For more information contact Keep Lee County Beautiful 239-334-3488.

Fishing line is easily tangled in mangrove roots. Too many fishermen then cut the line, leaving the monofilament line that endangers wildlife that gets tangled in it. This annual event retrieves miles of fishing line from mangroves, as well as other debris that finds it’s way into the mangrove roots.

Volunteers are needed for this effort to clear the back bay of fishing line and other debris. If you can’t get out on the water, be sure to stop at the Environmental EXPO. Learn how you can help protect Estero Bay!
