Mutiny on the Beach Update!
Beach Takes Back the Pirate
Festival
Schedule Announced
FORT MYERS BEACH, FL (Sept 28, 2012) – There has been
a mutiny! Fort Myers Beach has told defunct Pirate Festival Promoter to walk
the plank and beach businesses have struck an accord with Fort Myers Beach Area
Chamber of Commerce and the Town of Fort Myers Beach to take their festival
back.
"Shipwreck was the originator of this Pirate Festival
so we, along with the businesses on Fort Myers Beach, have taken it back and we
are fully prepared to put on a great festival this year in spite of the bump in
the road that we experienced earlier this week. We have rallied our shipmates
on Myers Beach and the show will go on”, says Shipwreck owner John Richard.
The Fort Myers Beach Pirate Festival will go on with
guns blazing and swords slashing. Swashbuckling festivities will begin on
October 5that 5pm in Times Square with
entertainment by The Trouble Makers. At 6pm across the bridge on San Carlos
Island, the Pirate Cruise-a-Palooza Cruise departs from Salty Sam’s Marina. The
Shipwrecked Pirate Ball at Nervous Nellies begins at 7pm.
Saturday, October 6th begins at 9am with a
Thieves’ Market, street vendors, pirates and wenches. The all new Little
Buccaneers Fishing Tournament will be held from 11am-2pm at the festival docks.
There will be live entertainment, treasure hunts, a pirate pub crawl, and the exciting
pirate invasion and epic battle starring the Pieces of Eight Pirates and other
scurvy pirates that will come from far and wide to invade Fort Myers Beach. The
Fort Myers Princess will offer a 2:30 cruise to view the Ship to Shore Battle
for $10. Princess Cruisers can be expected to be fired upon by the Pieces of
Eight Pirate Ship! The Old San Carlos Boulevard area from Times Square to the
Matanzas Restaurant, will be transformed back into "Tortuga” where pirates and
wenches will roam the streets and interact with patrons. At 5 pm Times
Square offers more live music on stage by Big Al and the Phat Cats. From 8-11pm
the Shipwrecked Mutineers Ball and Charity Auction takes place at Nervous
Nellies.
During the Pirate Festival area restaurants will
offer drink specials to costumed pirates. Participating restaurants are: S.O.B,
Matanzas, Yucatan Beach Stand, the Tiki Bar, Zushi Sushi, Nervous Nellies, Fort
Myers Princess, Parrot Key Caribbean Grill and Big Game Waterfront Grill, and
Pieces of Eight Pirate Ship.
Dairy Queen is offering free Dilly Bars to all
children participating in the fishing tournament and Rudy’s Treasure Chest on
the Pier will be providing bait.
