Celebrates 25 Years

Through the ages, people of every culture have engaged in religious practices that have provided them with comfort and a means by which to be closer to God. What that means is different from one belief system to the next, but for the Sisters of Poor Clare, celebrating their 25th year here on Fort Myers Beach at the San Damiano Monastery, it means a life of prayer and contemplation. And whether you are a practicing Catholic or not, if you spend time with them, you will find that these women radiate a level of heartfelt love and devotion that literally illuminates the air around them.

Schools OutSchools Out

This week was a big one for the students at Beach Elementary School. Graduating 5th graders were treated to a trip to Busch Gardens and a ceremony to celebrate their leaving our little island school to begin the next chapter of their lives at middle schools on the mainland.

Accelerated Readers (AR) from Beach Elementary School enjoy a special lunch at Gulfshore Grill with Principal Wood and Mrs. Linda Gassner. The top readers of each grade are recognized each quarter.

School security and the safety of beach children is a priority to parents and the community. Local officials depend on the assistance of the School Resource Officer Program provided by Lee County Public Schools in conjunction with the Lee County Sheriff’s Department. Deputy Jared Rogers is the School Resource Officer (SRO) assigned to Fort Myers Beach Elementary.

Deputy Rogers has been with the department since May 2004, but joined the SRO program in mid-February of this year. That’s when he was assigned split duty between Heights Elementary on Gladiolus, and Beach Elementary School.

Denise MonahanHappy Mother’s Day!
One Great Beach Mom: Denise Monahan

If you are a mother, you know the value of being regarded as "a great mom". If your children tell you that, it is one of the most gratifying things you will ever hear. If your husband tells you that, you fall in love with him all over again. If your children's teachers, or the parents of their friends, tell you that, you get that rush of pride in your kids and, to one degree or another, in your own self, that trumps anything bad that could have happened that day. But if most of the people you know regard you as such, then chances are, you really are a great mom.
